Chairman Crowley Statement on Republican Vote toWeaken Clean Air Protections

(Washington, D.C.) – House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY) issued the following statement after Republicans voted today to weaken clean air protections:

“Republicans spent this year boosting up corporations and bringing down the middle class. Today, they voted for more of the same.

“The SENSE Act puts the bottom line of coal companies above our nation’s most vulnerable communities. It will allow for continued pollution by coal power plants – depriving Americans of their right to clean air and hurting those who already suffer from respiratory problems. At a time when clean energy is more affordable and more efficient than ever, it is unconscionable that Republicans are pushing dated energy policies. Democrats have a better vision for a clean energy plan that puts Americans to work in well-paying jobs, invests in our country’s resources, and keeps our air safe to breathe.”
