Chairman Crowley Invites Students from Queens and the Bronx to Participate in 2018 Congressional Art Competition

Queens, NY) – Today, Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus Joe Crowley (D-NY) announced the start of the 2018 Congressional Art Competition for high school students in New York’s 14th Congressional District. The winning artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for a year.

“Every year, I have the privilege of showcasing incredible artistic talent from Queens and the Bronx through the Congressional Art Competition,” said Chairman Crowley. “I cherish this opportunity to connect with young artists from the 14th Congressional District, and I always look forward to bringing a little piece of our community with me to our nation’s capital!”

The winner of the competition will be invited to attend the opening of the exhibit in Washington, D.C., where artwork from other contest winners nationwide will also be on display.

The Congressional Art Competition is a nationwide high school art competition that provides an opportunity for Members of Congress to promote and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. More than 650,000 high school students nationwide have participated in the competition since 1982.

The 2017 first place finish went to Jackson Heights resident Emily Fabrizi, a senior at St. John’s Preparatory School, for her digital painting “Searching for Serenity”.

Entries for the competition are now being accepted and must be received by Congressman Crowley’s Queens District Office by Tuesday, April 24th to be considered. Congressman Crowley’s Queens District Office is located at 82-11 37th Avenue, Suite 402, Queens, NY 11372.
