Chairman Crowley Statement on the Balanced Budget Amendment

(Washington, D.C.) – House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY) issued the following statement after voting against the Balanced Budget Amendment:

“The so-called Balanced Budget Amendment is not about deficits or debts – its sole purpose is to advance the unrelenting Republican agenda to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Republicans spent $2 trillion giving lavish tax cuts to corporate special interests and are now attempting to balance the books on the backs of seniors, children, and working families. I voted against this bill on the House floor today and will continue to fight Republican attempts to bankrupt the working family.”
