Chairman Crowley Statement Supporting Completion of East Side Access and Penn Station Access Projects

(Washington, D.C.) — Congressman Joe Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, issued the following statement calling for full completion of the East Side Access and Penn Station Access Projects:

“It’s a well-known fact that New York’s public transit system is struggling to accommodate its growing population, which is why we must work quickly to bolster and expand our city’s public transit infrastructure. In pursuit of that goal, I have been working with the MTA to prioritize expansion of the Metro-North rail line into the East Bronx.

“I appreciate that both the MTA and Amtrak are devoted to addressing the needs of commuters across New York, which is why I am calling for the completion of the ESA and Penn Station projects as soon as possible and for Amtrak to provide full details on scheduled outages and provide the manpower necessary for their completion. These projects are crucial to our efforts to expand public transit options for all New Yorkers and I’m glad to see the MTA is moving ahead to get it completed.”
