Bronx Week 2018 Family Day Olympiad

On Saturday, May 12, 2018, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and New York City Parks & Recreation co-hosted the first-ever Family Day Olympiad as part of Bronx Week 2018.
The inaugural Family Day Olympiad, which was co-sponsored by High Class Car & Limo Service and Sussman Education, focused on the importance of bonding as family through physical activity and living a healthy lifestyle, part of Borough President Diaz’s “#Not62” health initiative.
Borough President Diaz and the New York City Parks & Recreation department were joined by Indianapolis Colts defensive end Caraun Reid (a Bronx native) and organizations such as DREAM, New York Road Runners, The Shadow League, New York Junior Tennis & Learning and South Bronx United as each team of families—consisting of an adult and a child between the ages of 6- to 16-years-old—competed in various events such as the Potato Sack Race, Relay Races, Hula Hoops, Wheelbarrow Races, Mini Hurdles and a Basketball Shooting Competition. Teams earned points in each event for a chance to win the first ever Bronx Gold, Silver or Bronze medals. Food for the event was provided by A-1 Food Distributors.
“This is a new event that we added to our Bronx Week festivities that I am truly excited about, because it focuses not only on family unity but also emphasizes the importance of great healthy habits, getting off the couch and doing fun activities, which we know is a great first step in leading healthier lifestyles. Not only is this event a great fun family activity but hopefully a catalyst for families to do more than just watch TV or play video games, as part of family fun time,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.
