We Need More Tenant Protections After Another Cold Winter!

Turning Up the Heat in the Winter Months

Yesterday, alongside Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, and Council Members Mark Levine and Robert Cornegy, I announced the introduction of a new bill that will require landlords with a history heat violations to install heat sensors in order to ensure that tenants’ homes are adequately heated during the coldest months of the year. Denying residents heat is against the law and this legislation will hold landlords with a history of violations directly accountable.

Pop-Up OATH Court in the Bronx

The Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (OATH) – the City’s independent administrative law court where all City agencies file their regulatory and enforcement summonses for hearings – will hold a Neighborhood Pop-Up Court in our District Office at 573 East Fordham Road, Bronx, NY 10458 on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. On that day, OATH staff and Hearing Officers will be available to check in respondents and hold hearings on City-issued summonses at the District Office until 4pm. Full translation services will be available in up to 250 languages. Respondents will be sent the Hearing Officer’s decision in the mail within seven days.
