Matters of Faith: What Are You Believing God For?

Matthew 9:27-29 (KJV)
And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou son of David, have mercy on us. 28 And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, “Believe ye that I am able to do this?” They said unto him, “Yea, Lord.” Then touched he their eyes, saying, “According to your faith be it unto you.”

“What are you believing God for?” was our challenge question last week on Matters of Faith: The Radio Show. We tried to show and to prove that all things are possible when you put your trust in the Lord.

Two blind men were following Jesus and crying out (the CEV translation says that they were shouting), “Thou son of David, have mercy on us.” It’s amazing to me that two blind men who probably had to grope their way, followed Jesus and then found a way into the house that He entered. It’s equally amazing to know that many sighted people aren’t nearly as committed. These blind men recognized Him and believed that He had the power and the ability to heal them.

What does it take to have this kind of faith? Faith is something that can be developed and strengthened the more it’s used. Every small victory of faith leads to big successes. First they believed, then they persued. Small victories lead to big successes. You can grow your faith also. Perhaps they heard Jesus saying, “all things are possible to him that believeth (Mark 9:23).” Or maybe they had a premonition of what Paul would write to the Roman church, “If God be for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31)” Make it a habit to spend at least fifteen minutes a day reading and studying the Bible. It’s filled with stories like these blind men overcoming major obstacles and living out their faith.

From a very practical sense, if you develop the habit of thanking God for a perfect day the first thing in the morning, you’ve taken your first step in faith. Then, make it a habit to make up your bed every day. It may not seem like much, but it will be the first victory and the evidence of your perfect day. If nothing goes right for the rest of the day, at least you’ll come home to a made-up bed.

What are you believing God for? What are you thinking? Are you expecting great things of God? Are you prepared to do great things for God? Prepare yourself to receive from God and to do things for God through prayer, meditation, study, and, of course, faith. Don’t just sit around hoping and wishing. Be like the blind men who cried out to Jesus and followed Him, believing that He would heal them. Live your faith and your faith will give you life.

What are you believing God for?
