Parkland High School students visit The Bronx on Friday

Today, Assembly Member Michael A. Blake (D-79th District, The Bronx) will host a group of student leaders from Parkland High School for a gun violence prevention and voter mobilization Day of Action in the South Bronx, as an installment of the 25 state, 80 city MARCH FOR OUR LIVES ROAD TO CHANGE national tour.

MARCH FOR OUR LIVES ROAD TO CHANGE, Youth For Change and Assembly Member Blake are partnering with Save Our Streets (S.O.S.) and BEATSTRO for a community conversation with local S.O.S. youth leaders to develop life saving and community empowering solutions. The Bronx, the most diverse county in America according to the U.S. Census, has seen great community and police relation progress in addressing the spike in the number of homicides.  The students and community leaders will discuss strategies and best practices, potential proposals for legislation, and participate in civic engagement activities.

The visit will commence with a lunch round table discussion hosted by Assembly Member Blake at the newly opened hip-hop themed restaurant BEATSTRO.  Later, the students will meet with gun violence prevention and interruption advocates to discuss community solutions at the Save Our Streets office at 601 E. 163rd Street. The visit concludes with a community walk and voter mobilization drive at both the Forest Houses and St. Mary’s Houses.
