Three Kings Day Celebration
Written by:  Bharati S. Kemraj

On Saturday, January 4, 2014 the community came together to celebrate Three Kings Day. State Senator Rev. Rubén Díaz along with Bronx Borough President Rubén Díaz Jr., Assemblyman Marcos Crespo, Assemblyman Luis Sepulveda, The New York Hispanic Clergy Organization and others joined to distribute toys as hundreds of children gathered in the auditorium of Public School #5.
For many in the Hispanic Community, January 6th is the day when children receive their gifts. It is a date celebrated throughout Latin America, Spain and here in the United States. The day represents the Epiphany of the church calendar, the 12th day after Christmas, when the Magi arrived bearing gifts for baby Jesus. Traditionally, children receive presents on this day, brought by the three kings, Melchor, Gaspar and Balthazar.
“Everything here is for the children. From the live music and entertainment to the toys and backpacks,” stated Senator Díaz.
