The Gun Hill Brewery held its grand opening with much fanfare in the Northeast Bronx last night, as hundreds of people came near (down the block) and far (Brooklyn, Massachusetts, Delaware) for the local happening. Baychester residents walking down the street were blown away by the addition to the community, described as a taste of downtown New York or Brooklyn right here in the Bronx. Click here to see coverage of the The Chroncile‘s “Bloggers and Brewers” event earlier this week at The Brewery. On tap last night were
Assemblyman Mark Gjonaj (above) and Congressman Elliot Engel (below) stopped by to enjoy the festivities and have a cold one, wishing well to proprieters Kieran Farrell and David Lopez.
Foodtrucks (see photos below) from Maspeth and Astoria in Queens serving Philly cheesesteaks and empanadas sated the crowd’s hunger (and helped to sober up the drivers, as much of the crowd came by car as well as from the 5 train at Gun Hill Road, about a ten minute walk. (By the way, if you’re confused about the truck, so was I, as was this blogger: “I will admit here that I had no clue what “jawn” meant when I first heard it – but I like to pretend I did. It is basically Philly slang that can replace the name for almost anything and in this case, what Phil’s calls their truck.”–Jackie Armstrong
