Yesterday the Saint Raymond Parish held their 4th annual art show at the Elementary School gymnasium. Artist’s featured were students from all three schools, Saint Raymond Elementary, Saint Raymond Academy for Girls, and Saint Raymond High School for Boys.
The elementary school gymnasium was transformed into a huge art gallery featuring over a thousand pieces of artwork. Many different mediums were on display, ranging between works done in pencil, paint, photography, and clay sculptors.
“We, especially the art teachers, saw the talent in our students two years ago. But because the classes are large, it is hard to get around to each student in an art centered setting.” said Sister Patricia Brito, Principal to St. Raymond Elementary School, describing the challenges to an increasing importance of art programs.
When questioned how the elementary school addressed these challenges, Sister Brito explained that the school hired two art teachers so that the classes can be split in order to give the students individual attention and a better exposure to multiple forms of artistic mediums. In addition, the school has extended after school programs and have an after school art club.
“Art and music is very important to us as a school. I find it absolutely awesome when I see the type of work and talent that is brought out in these art projects from all three schools.” said Sister Brito.
