Locust Point Civic Association Cooking Classes

Locust Point Civic Association is excited to announce our four part cooking class series. Classes are being taught by our CSA Core Members and will cover a variety of techniques for everyone from beginners to experienced home cooks.

All classes require advance reservations and are limited to 12 people, so please RSVP to: cnapolitano@netzero.net or call 347 607 7705.

All classes are $20 per person per class. If you would like to attend all four classes, you can purchase the series for $75 per person. You must be 18 to attend classes. Anyone 16 to 18 must be accompanied by a parent and will be charged the same. All classes are being held at the Locust Point Civic Association, 3300 Tierney Place.

Class 1: Monday, April 7 from 6pm to 9pm
Macaroni and Cheese from Scratch
Teacher: Chrys Napolitano, CSA Core Member and Food Writer
Forget the box with the powder, make Macaroni and Cheese from scratch. Inspired by the fact that many of us count Mac ‘n Cheese from a box one of our first culinary adventures, our first cooking class will be devoted to making this comfort food. The class will cover the whole process from beginning to end, resulting in a delicious meal for the class to share. During the class, we will discuss ways to change the recipe to add variety to your menu plans.

Class 2: Monday, April 28 from 6pm to 9pm
Stock and Soup Workshop
Teacher: Chrys Napolitano
The class will begin with a review of the basics for making stock from meat bones and will allow attendees to see the process from beginning to end, including jarring up enough stock for attendees to bring home a quart for their use. After reviewing the stock making process, instructor will review two basic soup recipes and the many variations that can be tried at home. The class will end with a delicious soup tasting.

Class 3: Monday, May 5 from 6pm to 9pm
Basics of Vegetarian Cooking
Teacher: Ann Kelly, CSA Core Member and Certified Holistic Health Coach
Have you been wondering about how to get more Veggie into your life? Have you heard of the Super grain Quinoa but don’t know what to do with it? Come to this hands-on class and have fun while we make three delicious Vegetarian dishes. You will learn all the skills to make these dishes and more variations. Two dishes will be cooked and the third dish will be raw. You will walk away with all the recipes and shopping list so you can recreate these dishes at home. At the end of class we will share our creations which will have enough protein to keep you satisfied.

Class 4: Monday, May 19 from 6pm to 9pm
It’s a Pizza Party!
Teacher: Lourdes Harkins, CSA Core Member

The class will begin with a demonstration of how to make your own pizza dough from scratch. Participants will then be able to make a batch for themselves to bring home and use on their own. Afterwards, the class will work with prepared dough to make their own pizzas, utilizing a variety of toppings. Instructor will review additional toppings that can be added to your menu plan to utilize seasonal and local toppings. Students are encouraged to bring their own pizza stones or pizza pans if they have one.
