Tech Committee to Examine Use of Data to Improve Health and Safety in NYC

Tomorrow, the City Council’s Committee on Technology, chaired by Council Member James Vacca, will hold an oversight hearing analyzing how the City uses data and technology to improve health and safety in New York. During the hearing, proactive ways to address health and safety will be examined, along with a wide range of ongoing and future projects being worked on by the Mayor’s Office of Data Analytics (MODA).

Topics discussed could include how data – such as 911 response times, statistics on illegal conversions from the Department of Buildings and fire code violations from FDNY – is used to take preventative safety measures; increasing public transparency on the use of federal disaster recovery funds; and ways to identify the City’s top debtors.

Representatives from MODA, along with multiple advocacy groups and other interested stakeholders, are expected to attend the hearing and testify.
