The May 2014 calendar of events for the Van Nest Library–located on Barnes Avenue between Lydig Avenue and Pelham Parkway South–is attached.

Some highlights:

* Open Book at the Library – Our monthly guide to the library for adults 50 years and older. This month’s topic of interest will be the music of Duke Ellington, and our special guest expert will be our good friend, local musician Joe Sherman. Thursday, May 1 at 1:30 pm.
* Story Time for All – NEW PROGRAM! This new reading program for children will be offered on the first, third, and fifth Thursday of every month. For children aged 5-12. Starting Thursday, May 1 at 3:30 pm.
* Morning News – NEW PROGRAM! Join us every Friday morning for a conversation on headlines from around the city, the nation, and the world. For adults. Starting Friday, May 2 at 10:30 am.
* Get Fit – NEW PROGRAM!  Our new fitness program helping people discover healthy lifestyles using the collections and resources of the library will now be happening every Monday afternoon. For adults. Starting Monday, May 5 at 4:30 pm.
* Stories to Play With – Storyteller LuAnn Adams returns with another fun-filled afternoon of stories. For children aged 3-6 with their parents/caregivers. Wednesday, May 7 at 2 pm.
* Interview with Confidence – A special workshop on how to improve your job interviewing skills. For adults. Thursday, May 22 at 1:30 pm.
* Etch Your Sketch – Teens will learn how to make art by etching designs on glass. For teens aged 12-18. Tuesday, May 27 at 3:30 pm.
* Plus all of our regular story time, craft, science, discussion, movie, computer and gaming programs!

 

The Van Nest Library, and all locations of the New York Public Library, will be closed Saturday, May 24 through Monday, May 26 in observance of Memorial Day weekend.
