Bronx Week Business Day Breakfast Tuesday in Hunts Point

As part of this year’s Bronx Week celebrations, Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation will co-host a Business Day Breakfast on Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. at the Anheuser-Busch Distribution Center, 550 Food Center Drive, in Hunts Point.

The event will feature Tracy Brandenburg, a professor from the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University, as its keynote speaker.  Dr. Brandenburg will give advice to Bronx entrepreneurs entitled “How to Unlock your Innovation Superpowers.” She will share the problem-solving methodology known as “Design Thinking,” which generates business ideas by first understanding the world in which our users live.  Most individuals tend to focus on the product that they are selling instead of the end user.    By starting with empathy – feeling what our customers feel – the entrepreneur better understands what might delight the end user.

Dr. Brandenburg takes her students and executives on anthropological journeys, be it airports or the homes of refugees, where they learn to look at familiar environments with new eyes.  She teaches people to observe the everyday with this mindset so that they can empathize and then truly design an innovative solution for their businesses client.  She counts among her students executives from JetBlue, CapitalOne, Verizon, Intel, The Gates Foundation, Citrix, Abbot Laboratories and Hyatt, among others.

Additionally, Borough President Diaz will present a proclamation to Anheuser-Busch to commemorate the company’s commitment to green fuels, focusing on their Silver LEED Certified Plant building.

The event is sponsored by Anheuser-Busch, and is produced in partnership with The Bronx Tourism Council.

Seats are still available but reservations are needed by calling Angie Teran at 718 590 5623 or ateran@boedc.org.
