With spring weather and flowers blooming, the month of May is a special time for many. For Roman Catholic’s, May signifies the time of devotion for Mary, the Blessed Mother of Jesus. With Mary being known as “the Queen of May”, there are multiple dedication ceremonies that take place to honor her. One of the more popular dedication ceremonies is known as the May Crowning. The May Crowning allows followers a chance to reflect on Mary’s role in the history of the church.

Monsignor John Graham explained to the students that the May Crowning, “recognizes Mary as queen of heaven and earth.” Each second grader, recently receiving their first holy communion, presented a flower to the statue of Mary along with a crown of flowers.
