NYS Department Of Labor Releases Unemployment Stats For May; Bronx County Worst Again

On Tuesday, the New York State Department of Labor released preliminary local area unemployment rates for May 2014.  Bronx County had the worst rate in the state at 10.6%, the only county with a double digit percentage.   (Queens County, by comparison, was 6.9%.) Rates are calculated following procedures prescribed by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The state’s unemployment rate relies in part on the results of the Current Population Survey, which contacts approximately 3,100 households in New York State each month.
