Congressman Crowley On Today’s Supreme Court Decision In The Case of Burwell v. Hobby Lobby

Today, Congressman Joe Crowley released the statement below following today’s ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of Burwell v. Hobby Lobby that some for-profit private corporations can deny coverage of family planning services to their employees:

“Opponents of the Affordable Care Act have tried every trick in the book to undermine access to health care. It’s unfortunate that something as important as preventive health services got caught up in political games.

“The real loss today comes for those women and men who work for private employers, contribute their own money to their health insurance premiums, and expect to purchase quality insurance that does not come with gaps in critical services. Along with mammograms and cervical cancer screenings, family planning services are a vital part of preventive health care and should be made more accessible and affordable to all.

“Despite today’s decision, and even more because of it, I will continue fighting against having Americans’ health being subject to the whims of politics.”
