Driver caught exposing carriage horse to extreme temperatures, violating NYC law

Forcing Horses to work in extreme temperatures

According to the Mayor’s office and the ASPCA, NYPD officials suspended horse carriage operations due to high temperatures yesterday at 12:37 pm. During the suspension, carriage driver and industry spokesperson Christina Hansen is seen on the below video operating her horse carriage at 1:54 pm yesterday.

City law strictly prohibits carriages from operating when temperatures are 90 degrees and above, yet Ms. Hansen was caught on video taking passengers in the scorching heat, more than 75 minutes after the suspension was reportedly put into effect.

Forcing horses to work in extreme temperatures puts them at risk of dehydration and heat stroke.
