Live Music, Italian Ices and Fun at Haight Avenue Block Party

On a cool summer day, Haight Avenue in the Bronx held their annual block party this past weekend. Kids were able to enjoy Italian ices while adults danced to music spun by a DJ from Top Notch Music Productions. Each year there is a different theme, with this year being “Fabulous Las Vegas”.

Senator Jeff Klein and Assemblyman Mark Gjonaj stopped by the block party to talk to community members about neighborhood concerns. Many residents on Haight Avenue took the opportunity to talk about traffic issues, especially speeding cars on Neill Avenue and Williamsbridge Road.

Haight Avenue residents organize the block party to strengthen community spirit and for new neighbors to feel welcomed. “My family and I have felt nothing but welcomed in this neighborhood. It’s great to be able to spend a day with neighbors you might not normally have the chance to talk too.” said Mike, who moved on the block with his family this past year.

Of course, the Haight Avenue block party would not be completed without a live band jamming out. Every year the band plays classic rock songs thanks to Joe and his band. This year the band featured lead singer and local resident, Carol, along with backup dancers, The Jezebel’s.
