Rockets Fired from Gaza end latest Cease-fire

According to the New York Times, three rockets from Gaza rained down on Beersheba in southern Israel this Tuesday, ending a five-day long cease-fire.

During the cease-fire, Palestinian and Israeli officials met with Egyptian mediators in Cairo to negotiate a peace agreement. The cease-fire agreement expired on Monday at midnight and was then extended by both Israel and Palestine for another 24-hour in hopes of continued negotiations.

Mark Regev, an Israeli government spokesperson said, “Today’s rocket attack on Beersheba is a grave and direct violation of the cease-fire to which Hamas committed itself,” and adding, “this is the 11th cease-fire that Hamas has either rejected or violated.”

At the moment, it isn’t clear whether Hamas is responsible for the rocket fire, or a smaller militant group in Gaza.
