CHAM hosts 2nd Annual Turner Syndrome Workshop

Earlier this month, young girls and their families attended the second annual Turner Syndrome Workshop at The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM). Turner Syndrome affects 1 in 2,000 live births and occurs when there is an absence of all or part of the second X chromosome in the female body. This abnormality can cause infertility issues, kidney abnormalities, hearing loss, cardiac problems, scoliosis, dental problems, webbed necks, social issues and anxiety.

During the workshop parents heard from experts about how to care for their children’s physical, social and emotional needs and the girls spent time together doing various arts and crafts projects designed to promote self-esteem and encourage them to discuss shared experiences and express their emotions.

The event was hosted by the Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes at CHAM together with Turner Syndrome Foundation. For more information, visit http://www.cham.org/services/endocrinology/
