Diabetes Prevention and Education Program for Bronx Residents

 

Lighthouse Guild, the leading not-for-profit vision + healthcare organization, joins the call to action against avoidable blindness by spearheading a week-long series of events in support of the VISION 2020 Global Initiative. Starting off the week, Lighthouse Guild and local elected officials will sponsor a diabetes education event that addresses diabetes prevention, and educates individuals with the disease on how they can mitigate associated complications – including avoidable vision loss and blindness.

WHAT:                 Diabetes and Vision Loss Prevention Community Education Event

                                On Tuesday, October 7, Lighthouse Guild will partner with Councilman James Vacca and Comptroller Scott Stringer to host a diabetes  and vision loss prevention community education event in the Bronx to help individuals with or who are at risk of diabetes learn about the many resources available to reduce associated complications, avoid vision loss, and improve their quality of life. A Registered Dietitian, Certified Diabetes Educator from Lighthouse Guild will discuss tips for avoiding vision loss by properly managing or preventing diabetes, and will distribute additional educational materials.
