On Wednesday, October 8th Bronx elected officials, political activists and most importantly community activists lauded Comptroller Tom DiNapoli at a press conference held at the offices of The Bronx Democratic County Committee.

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. said: “ Over the last two years alone, we have seen over 12 million dollars recovered and over 70 people who have been arrested…that is because of the watchful eye of Tom DiNapoli. It is Tom who has been there exposing the widespread abuse of contractors and that is another reason why we are here to support Tom. We have seen our pension system grow to new heights at $180 billion dollars because of Tom’s innovative and creative ways that he has implemented to make the pension system grow.”

Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz said: “We served together as members of the New York State assembly. At one point he was chair of Environmental Conservation Committee and he was the leading environmentalist in the state fighting to protect our environment.”

New York City Councilwoman Vanessa Gibson, a former member of the New York State Assembly, said: “He has made his role relevant to every New Yorker as well as the work his office has done to ensure the protection of the State’s pension system but also the work he has done around Minority and Women’s Business Development making sure that our small businesses, the heart and fabric of our communities, have an opportunity to grow and expand. He stands firm on his values, his character, his integrity, and his principles. In this day and age when there are so many who want to abuse the system, the bad apples that we continue to see in our state, Tom has been the one to show true leadership and for all those reasons and many more, we are standing here collectively to support his re-election.”

New York State Assemblyman and Chair of the Executive Committee of the Bronx Democratic County Committee Carl Heastie said: “Coming back from a recession that devastated pensions around this state, the NYS pension system has not only been brought back but we have had a record high of 180 billion dollars.” “When you have a successful quarterback driving us and winning the game, the coach does not yell ‘It’s time to take out the quarterback’ and put in someone else that we would never see with the same track record as Tom DiNapoli”

In accepting the support from the leaders of the Bronx Comptroller DiNapoli said: “The diverse communities across this borough have always been an important part of the social fabric that makes up our great state. Your support will be invaluable as our campaign moves into the final month and I could not be more thankful for the support from Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. to County Chair Carl Heastie, to my many friends at all levels of government. The Bronx leadership will be a pivotal part of our effort to spread our message of accountability and integrity to New Yorkers across the state.”

It is my opinion that in the Bronx, New York City and throughout New York State folks of all ideologies, political party, socio-economic level and demographics are with a Comptroller who is independent and ever mindful that he is caretaker for the NYS pensions, our revenue, the economy of our great state and a role often overlooked the person who watches for corruption by elected officials, corporations, contractors and others who commit malfeasances. I am also thrilled to see a Comptroller who has a commitment to our environment be it for electric vehicles, cutting down on pollution and safeguarding the monies used to preserve our state parks and other areas of wilderness in our great Borough and State.
