Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. hosted his annual Italian-American heritage Celebration on Thursday, October 16, 2014, at the Schiff Family Great Hall on the grounds of the Bronx Zoo. During the event, Borough President Diaz honored former United States Senator Alphonse “Al” D’Amato, who served new York State in that capacity from 1981 to 1999.

During his remarks, Senator D’Amato said that he decided to accept the borough president’s invitation to be honored because he admires him for his commitment to public service and the people of The Bronx.

“There’s not a Republican way or a Democratic way, there’s the right way and the wrong way,” said Senator D’Amato in his remarks. “And Ruben Diaz stands for rebuilding The Bronx and giving opportunity to make it stronger, and that’s why I’m here today.”
