Election Day is November 4: NY State Assembly

On Tuesday we will be voting for the most basic and local representative to our NYS government: our New York State Assembly Members. Each one provides direct services to his or her constituency. Each one votes in Albany for legislation which will be most helpful to those residing in the district and to The Bronx as a whole. I made a stringent attempt to locate information on all candidates in all parties and in all districts. Most often information was not located for candidates opposing incumbents or the Democratic candidate. I did list ALL candidates. If I missed any web sites or information on any candidates I apologize. If anybody is interested in another candidate rather than the incumbent in their district please do a search.

In the 77th Assembly District Latoya Joyner is the Democratic and Working Families Party candidate. She is a candidate to replace Vanessa Gibson who has moved on to the New York City Council. The 77th Assembly District includes the communities of Highbridge and Morris heights. Ms. Joyner represents the basic progressive tenets of the Democratic Party. She has opponents on the Republican ( Esperanza Reyes Acosta) and Conservative Lines ( Benjamin Eggleston). No information is available on these two candidates.

In the 78th Assembly District the incumbent is Assemblyman Jose Rivera. This district represents the communities of Kingsbridge heights, Bedford Park and Belmont. Assemblyman Rivera is opposed by Fernando Tirado who is a candidate on the Republican Line and on an Independent Line. Mr. Tirado had also opposed Assemblyman Rivera in the Democratic Party Primary. Mr. Tirado is continuing his fight for what he feels the 78 AD needs into this General Election. Mr. Tirado’s platform can be seen on Facebook.

In the 79th Assembly District Michael Blake is the Democratic Candidate. The 79th Assembly district includes teh communities of Morrisaina and East Tremont. The seat became vacant after Eric Stevenson was charged with corruption. Mr. Blake is a proponent of affordable housing, the aspirations of the working class and other progressive goals. His opponent on the Republican Line is Selsia Evans. There is no information on Selia Evans.

In the 80th Assembly District Assemblyman Mark Gjonaj is the incumbent. He is the candidate of the Democratic Party.After being successful in the 2012 Primary against the incumbent he has received much acclaim from all over his district: WEST AND EAST for his community events and initiatives. He represents the communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Mosholu, Allerton Pelham Parkway, Morris park, Pelham Gardens and Van Nest. He is opposed by Robert Goodman on the Republican and Conservative Lines. No information is available about Mr. Goodman.

In the 81st Assembly District Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz is on the Democratic and Working Families Lines. The 82nd Assembly District includes the communities of Norwood, Kingbridge, Riverdale, Van Cortandt, Wakefield and Woodlawn. His opponent on the Conservative line is Alan Reed. There is no information on Mr.Reed.

In the 82nd Assembly District Assemblyman Michael Benedetto is the incumbent. He is on the Democratic and Working Families Party Lines. The 82nd Assembly District includes the communities of Co-Op City, Pelham Bay, Throggs Neck, City Island, Country Club, Westchester Square. He has opponents on the Republican ( Michael Egginton) and Conservative ( William Britt)lines. No information is available on these two candidates.

In the 83rd Assembly District Assemblyman Carl Heastie is the incumbent. He is on the Democratic and Working Families Party Lines.The 83rd Assembly District includes the communities of Williamsbridgem Wakefield, Edenwald, Eastchester and Baychester. His opponent on the Republican and Conservative lines is Benjamin Halloway. His opponent on the Green Party Line is Trevor Archer). No information is available on these two candidates.

In the 84th Assembly District Assemblywoman Carmen Arroyo is the incumbent. She is on the Democratic Party Line. This district includes the communities of Mott haven, Port Morris, Melrose, The Hub, Longwood and Hunts Point.She has opponents on the Republican ( Angel Molina) and Conservative Lines ( Frankin Chidi Oleh). No information is available on these two candidates.

In the 85th Assembly District Assemblyman Marcos Crespo is the incumbent. He is the candidate on the Democratic Party Line. This district includes the communities of Soundview, Clason Point, Longwood, Hunts Point and Rikers Island. He has opponents on the Republican ( Janelle King), Conservative ( Barbara Santander) and Green Party ( Daniel Zuger) Lines. No information was available on these candidates.

In the 86th Assembly District Victor Pichardo is the incumbent. He is on the Democratic and Working Families Party Lines). In the Democratic Primary he was victorious by two votes. That was the closest vote for a New York State Assembly seat ever. His district includes the communities of Fordham, University Heights, Morris Heights, Mount Hope, Mount Eden, East Temont and parts of Kingsbridge. He has opponents on the Republican (Rene Santos) and Conservative ( Jose Marte) lines. No information is available on these two candidates.

In the 87th Assembly District Luis Sepulveda is the incumbent. He is on theT Democratic and Working Families Lines. This district includes the communities of
Parkchester, West Farms. Castle Hill and Van Nest .He has an opponent on the Republican and Conservative Line ( Michael Dennis)

PLEASE NOTE: In my column on NYS Senate candidates I inadvertently omitted Jose Padilla. Mr. Padilla is a candidate for NYS Senate on the Independence Party Line in the 33rd Senatorial District.
