With health care open enrollment now underway, Council Member Andy King is hosting a free Affordable Healthcare Enrollment Sign-up Session on Thursday, Nov. 20th, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at his district office at 940 East Gun Hill Rd., Bronx.
Navigators will be available who speak English, Spanish and other languages.
Experts recommend that those new to health care shopping on the public exchanges work with navigators or insurance agents — or at least spend extra time exploring options before the Dec. 15 deadline for plans that are effective Jan. 1. There are 25 percent more plans on HealthCare.gov and fluctuating premiums, provider lists and out-of-pocket costs on all exchanges.
Re-enrollment is recommended even for people who are happy with the plan they bought last year because there will often be lower rates.
In addition to the health care open enrollment session, there will be free mammogram testing provided by St. Barnabas Hospital (SBH) System Mobile Mammography Van Breast Clinic from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no charge for those without medical insurance. Individuals, who have insurance, should bring their insurance card. Eligible women must be over 40 years of age and have not had a mammogram in the past year.
