A crazed gunman has fatally shot two Brooklyn police officers “execution style” before turning the gun on himself.

It is believed, through social media shares and commentary, that the gunman may have carried out these killings as a revenge attack over the recent nationwide buzz on what many have deemed police mistreatment of minorities.

The officers, Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos, were part of a “critical response” detail unit that focused on areas with high crime rates. They were both sitting in their patrol car when the shooter ambushed them and shot at point blank range, according to police sources.  Walking towards the car from the sidewalk at the corner of Myrtle & Thompson Avenues, he is believed to have fired from the passenger side before fleeing to the nearest subway station at the sight of oncoming patrol cars.

Once in the subway and surrounded by police, the shooter turned the gun on himself in an apparent suicide.

Just three hours prior to the shooting, social media accounts believed to have belonged to the shooter had been sharing intent, with phrases such as “They Take 1 Of Ours…Let’s Take 2 of Theirs,” and “I’m Putting Wings on Pigs Today.”  Photos in the Instagram shares are believed to contain the same gun used in the killings.

Police Commissioner William J. Bratton, calling the killings an assaination, stated the officers were shot with “no warning” and “no provocation”

Officer Liu had been on the force for 7 years and had just gotten married 2 months ago. Officer Ramos, who just celebrated his 40th birthday on December 12th, was on the job 2 years and was married with a 13 year old son.

The Bronx Chronicle management & staff extends our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the families & friends of Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos for their tragic loss.
