Breaking News: DNC Snubs de Blasio’s Brooklyn, Chooses Philly

This morning the Democratic National Committee announced in video on Facebook that Philadelphia had been chosen over rival cities Brooklyn, NY and Columbus, Ohio to host the 2016 presidential nominating convention.

DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz said Philadelphia was a “deep rooted place in American history that provides a perfect setting for this special gathering,” in a statement.

In tersely worded statement, Mayor Bill de Blasio said, “New York City represents the future of America.” He added, “Brooklyn is America’s greatest urban success story, which would have made it a great backdrop to nominate the next president of the United States.”

De Blasio also thanked the team who worked on securing the bid, which made an aggressive pitch to stage the convention at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
