THE BRONX – North Central Bronx has the largest midwifery program in the city, with its midwives averaging more than 20 years of experience.
The new Labor and Delivery Unit at North Central Bronx Hospital reflects the midwives’ importance to parents in the borough. The hospital received upgraded state-of-the-art equipment and computers that allow for better monitoring of mom and baby.
A midwife’s role is to assist women from the first stages of pregnancy through their deliveries.
Many first-time parents say they develop deep bonds with their midwives.
The hospital’s labor and delivery unit also has free translators on hand to reflect the borough’s diverse community.
