Raleek Young Charged in Attack on Rikers C.O.

(Bronx, NY – March 10, 2015) – Bronx District Attorney Robert Johnson today announced a Supreme Court Grand Jury has indicted 26-year-old RALEEK YOUNG in the February 28th, 2015 attack on a correction officer at Rikers Island’s Anna M. Kross Center.

The Grand Jury voted a true bill containing the following charges:

Attempted Rape in the 1st Degree (Class C Felony)

Sexual Abuse in the 1st Degree (Class D Felony)

                Forcible Touching (Class A Misdemeanor)

RALEEK YOUNG is accused of shoving his way in to the office where the C.O. was working, and pushing her into the bathroom, where he groped her.  The officer was able to use her personal riot alarm and chemical spray to stop the attack.  The officer was taken to a hospital, suffering bruising on her arms and face, as well as psychological trauma.

YOUNG had earlier been convicted on sex crime charges in Queens, for which he had been sentenced to five years in prison plus another ten years post-release supervision.  But, accused of failing to comply with mandated programs and conditions following his release, he had been ordered remanded on what is called a Civil Management Proceeding, and was in Rikers awaiting a hearing.

If convicted of these charges, RALEEK YOUNG faces 15 years maximum behind bars.  He will be arraigned on the Supreme Court Indictment on April 7, 2015, before Justice Margaret Clancy in Part 79.

The charges in this indictment are merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
