10,000 FREE BOOKS BY IRISH AUTHORS TO BE GIVEN AWAY
IN ALL 5 BOROUGHS ON ST. PATRICK’S DAY
NYC Council Member Ritchie Torres will be handing out books as part of 5th annual Irish Arts Center Book Day
WHAT: NYC Council Member Ritchie Torres will be helping great works of Irish and Irish American fiction find their way into the hands and hearts of thousands of New Yorkers on St. Patrick’s Day as Irish Arts Center gives away up to 10,000 free books written by noted Irish and Irish American authors on the 5th annual Irish Arts Center Book Day.
WHO: Council Member Ritchie Torres, Irish Arts Center officials and over 40 Irish Book Day 2015 volunteers will be at ten different transit hubs across the five boroughs of New York to hand out books by award-winning Irish authors KEVIN BARRY, FLANN O’BRIEN, MAEVE BINCHY, and JAMES JOYCE in Polish translation, and many others, including children’s books, in celebration of Ireland’s national holiday, St. Patrick’s Day.
WHICH: Some highlights from our book selection this year include: critically-acclaimed The Forgotten Waltz (2011) by Anne Enright (Ireland’s newly appointed Fiction Laureate), Colum McCann’s eye-opening political fiction Zoli (2006), a polish translation of James Joyce’s Finnegan’s Wake (1939) as well as The Guts (2013), the latest novel in Roddy Doyle’s Barrystown Saga (The Commitments, The Snapper, The Van)
