04-01-15-81-Pct-Gun-Arrest

On Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at 5 p.m., Police Officers Ryan Galvin, Mark Xylas and Vaughan Ettienne, all assigned to the 81 Precinct Anti-Crime Unit, were on patrol in the vicinity of Ralph Avenue and Bainbridge Street (Brooklyn) when they observed a red 2013 Chevy Impala with excessively tinted windows.

The officers pulled the auto over and, as they approached, the driver rolled down his window and a strong odor of marijuana emanated from the vehicle. The driver was unable to produce any paperwork for the vehicle, so the officers requested him to exit the vehicle.

Upon the driver exiting the vehicle, the officers observed a large straight edge knife on the floor of the driver’s side of the vehicle. The officers immediately placed him under arrest and removed him, and the vehicle, to the 81 Precinct for arrest processing. As the officers searched the vehicle, they discovered a Pioneer Arms Model PPS43-c 9mm machine gun, two high capacity magazines, one of which was loaded with 19 9MM rounds, 129 9MM rounds, 40 .45 caliber rounds, 14 .38 special rounds and two stun guns.

Mr. McManus was charged with Criminal Possession of a Machine Gun; Criminal Possession of a Loaded Firearm; Criminal Possession of a Defaced Firearm; and a Tint Violation for the vehicle he was riding in.
