Plaque Unveiling & Dedication Ceremony to Honor Legendary Bronxite at Sholem Aleichem Houses

BRONX, NY  – State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester), joined by Congressman Eliot Engel (D-Bronx/Westchester), Assemblyman Jeff Dinowitz (D-Bronx), Councilman Andrew Cohen (D-Bronx), Esther Nelson, and a bevy of local community members, friends and neighbors, will pay tribute to former Miss America, TV personality, and political maven Bess Myerson, on Sunday, April 19th at noon at the Sholem Aleichem Houses in Riverdale.

Myerson, a historic figure in the Bronx, grew up in a working-class family at the Sholem Aleichem Houses and was named Miss America in 1945. Myerson later served as New York City’s first commissioner of consumer affairs, an advisor to presidents Lyndon B. Johnson, Gerald R. Ford and Jimmy Carter, and ran for U.S. Senate in 1980.
