Speaker Mark-Viverito to Join The Committee for Effective Leadership Luncheon, April 26

melissa mark-viveritoThe Committee for Effective Leadership has announced yesterday that NYC Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito will be participating at it’s annual event on April 26th.

Along with Speaker Mark-Viverito will be the night’s keynote speaker, Public Advocate Leticia James. Other elected officials expected to attend include NYS Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, Senator Gustavo Rivera, Assemblymen Marcos Crespo, Michael Benedetto and Victor Pichardo, Council Members Andy King, Ritchie Torres and Andy Cohen.

Since becoming Speaker, Melissa Mark-Viverito represents Port Morris and Mott Haven in the Bronx as well as East Harlem in Manhattan.  In 2014 she became the first member of the Council’s Black, Latino and Asian Caucus to hold the position as Speaker. She has been a strong advocate for affordable housing, the middle and working class, laborer rights, animal rights, the environment and for a more effective police force. In 2011 she was one of the first pioneer’s for participatory budgeting in New York City communities.

This year’s Committee for Effective Leadership luncheon will be honoring four established community leaders: Patrick Devine, Hon. Joseph McManus, Eunic Ortiz and Hon. Joan Millman.

In a newly added addition to this year’s event, the luncheon will also focus on young up and coming leaders like: Joel Bhuiyan, Kathleen Canzoniero, Michael Czaczkes, John Doyle, Bryan Elliott, Elvin Garcia, Saul Glist, David Karopkin, Justin Lowery, Zellnor Myrie, Jon-Michael Provetto and Jennifer Rivera.

The luncheon will take place this Sunday, April 26, at 12 Noon. It will be held at Villa Barone Ristorante which is located at 3289 Westchester Avenue.
