The college-bound student and her parents were reportedly arguing over the daughter’s late hours at their Bedford Park home when the defendant compressed the young woman’s neck, killing her. |

Ortega and Leiva are charged with Robbery 2, 3, and several Assault and Weapons charges for the October 14th, 2012 University Heights shooting and wounding of off-duty NYPD officer, Ivan Marcano. Marcano, who was later promoted to detective and hailed as a hero by President Obama, was driving with his girlfriend when he observed a robbery in progress. The officer intervened and was shot in the chest. Shortly thereafter, Marcano happened upon the three suspects and fired several rounds, fatally wounding one of the men. |
