ANDREW ATKINS Following a plea of guilty to Manslaughter 2 in April, Atkins will be sentenced for the death of his 19-year-old daughter Latia Taylor-Atkins in June 2014. The college-bound student and her parents were reportedly arguing over the daughter’s late hours at their Bedford Park home when the defendant compressed the young woman’s neck, killing her.

JEFFREY PIERRE Pierre is charged with Murder 1, two counts of Murder 2 and other crimes for the May 9th, 2014 deaths of 23-year-old Kaison Lewis and 28-year-old Jermaine Lewis. Pierre is accused of following and shooting the two men who fled on foot after entering Pierre’s car, as he sat in it on Dyre Avenue.

RICHARD BLOOMFIELD Bloomfield is charged with Murder 2 and Manslaughter 1 for the November 2012 death of Madonna Martin. Martin, a nursing student and an LPN at Columbia-Presbyterian had been displaced by Hurricane Sandy, and temporarily moved into co-worker Bloomfield’s Mott Haven apartment. The defendant is accused of strangling his roommate and leaving her body in a parked car.

Ortega and Leiva are charged with Robbery 2, 3, and several Assault and Weapons charges for the October 14th, 2012 University Heights shooting and wounding of off-duty NYPD officer, Ivan Marcano. Marcano, who was later promoted to detective and hailed as a hero by President Obama, was driving with his girlfriend when he observed a robbery in progress. The officer intervened and was shot in the chest. Shortly thereafter, Marcano happened upon the three suspects and fired several rounds, fatally wounding one of the men.
