Mental Health and Veterans Conference this Friday

On May 15th, Jacobi Hospital is hosting their annual mental health conference which is organized by Sylvia Lask and sponsored by the Joint Community Advisory Board of the North Bronx Health Network.

This year’s conference is devoted to the mental health and medical needs of our veterans. Suicide, depression, and homelessness are way too prevalent within the veteran community. Veteran suicide and the stigmatization of veterans seeking mental help is a huge issue within the government and the military.

The conference will be held on the campus of Jacobi Medical Center in the Conference Center located inside of Building 4 on the 2nd Floor. Registration and breakfast starts at 8 a.m. with the conference starting at 8:30 a.m. Speaking about legislative initiatives and present  laws to protect our veterans with be Assemblyman Mike Benedetto, one of the strongest advocates for veteran issues.

Other speakers will include: Wendy Burch, Executive Director of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Evan R. Podolak from Operation SAVE: Suicide Prevention in the VA, Suicide Prevention Coordinator James J. Peters from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Jeff McQueen director of PFC Dwyer/Vet 2 Vet Project (who will also speak about the Value of Dog Therapy for Veterans), and Roberto Rodriguez, Outreach Supervisor Stand Up To Violence (SUV) Project at Jacobi Medical Center.

Please remind all veterans, relatives of veterans, caretakers, and all advocates for veterans to attend this very important conference on Friday.
