NYRP Launches 2nd Annual Arts in the Gardens with Bronx Museum

NYRP and Bronx Museum Team Up to Bring Second Annual, Free

Arts in the Gardens to Bronx Community Gardens
Partnership commits to activating NYRP community gardens with wide-ranging free, quality arts programming
New York, NY, May 2015 – New York Restoration Project (NYRP) and The Bronx Museum of the Arts are partnering for the second year to present a season of free arts programming in three NYRP community gardens in the Tremont, Mott Haven and Highbridge neighborhoods of the Bronx. With the goal of raising awareness and further activating NYRP’s wider network of public green spaces, the Arts in the Gardens series will bring communities together to enjoy performing arts in a natural, outdoor setting. From June through August, the event series will feature a mixed line-up of family-friendly events, including movie night series; hip-hop, music, and break-dancing performances; ice cream socials; poetry readings; mural installation, and more.
“We’re thrilled to continue partnering with the Bronx Museum to offer high-quality arts programming to make these spaces even more engaging with the surrounding communities,” said Jordan Dyniewski, NYRP’s Public Events Director. “Community gardens are known for urban agriculture; but we’re changing that perception with these events–they become exciting event venues where the community can gather to enjoy arts and get to know each other.”

 

The collaboration between NYRP and Bronx Museum demonstrates a sustainable partnership model that presents local communities with opportunities to enjoy free, high-quality programming, which they might not normally experience. The robust program also encourages people to engage more actively with their local environment. NYRP’s network of 52 community gardens across the city are places where individuals can discover and build community within a socio-economically diverse environment. By turning these outdoor public spaces into interactive event venues, the program will increase awareness of community gardens as resources for local communities as well as the wider NYC audience.
