Local Nurses Receive ANA-NY Award

Leeann Campbell and Mercy Rios-Floyd named Future Nurse Leaders

 

Bronx, NY, June 19, 2015 – The American Nurses Association – New York (ANA-NY) is proud to introduce the 2015 recipients of its Future Nurse Leader Awards. Designed to honor outstanding nursing students and encourage them to continue developing professional and leadership skills throughout their careers, the awards recognize 29 students graduating from nursing schools around the state.

 

The 2015 cohort of Future Nurse Leaders includes two students from the Bronx.

Leeann Campbell

Leeann Campbell will graduate this December from Monroe College School of Nursing in the Bronx. Ms. Campbell’s nomination commended her leadership and academic skills, saying: “Leeann’s optimism and focus on goal achievement has a positive influence to all those around her. [Her] dedication . . . extends beyond the walls of the College and into the community.” An active member of several, student nursing associations, Ms. Campbell is “articulate, mature, and insightful in group discussions,” according to her nomination.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Rios Floyd

Mercy Rios-Floyd

Mercy Rios-Floyd will graduate from Concordia College in New York in December 2015. Her nomination notes her strong “servant leadership,” with the nominator writing: “She consistently considers group needs over her own personal needs.” Throughout her academic career, Ms. Rios-Floyd has participated in a wide range of college and community civic activities, including co-leading the student peer mentoring program.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

“Leeann, Mercy and the rest of the 2015 cohort of Future Nurse Leaders represent exactly the high standards that ANA-NY is advocating for. By earning a degree in Nursing, they have laid the groundwork for distinguished careers in professional nursing, providing patient care and health care leadership in a wide range of settings and roles,” said Elizabeth “Betty” Mahoney, EdD, RN, President of ANA-NY. The Future Nurse Leaders were nominated by their schools of nursing as outstanding students who embody the ethics and values of nursing. Each Future Nurse Leader receives a certificate of recognition, a DVD copy of The American Nurse, and a year’s complimentary membership in the American Nurses Association and ANA-NY.
