BOOGIE ON THE BOULEVARD RETURNS TO THE GRAND CONCOURSE THIS SUNDAY

Boogie on the Boulevard: August 2nd, 9th and 16th – Noon to 4 p.m.

The Grand Concourse between 161st and 167th Streets

 Boogie on the Boulevard 2015-1

Boogie on the Boulevard is a celebration of art, active living, and public space in the Bronx. It is the reincarnation of a beloved Bronx tradition: car-free summer Sundays on the Grand Concourse. During the first three Sundays in August, the center lanes of the Grand Concourse are closed to cars, and opened to a world of culture, community, and fun. Boogie on the Boulevard also provides access to community information and resources to improve the health and quality of life for Bronx residents.

Boogie on the Boulevard marks a return of Transportation Alternatives’ (TA) Car-Free Sundays on the Grand Concourse. TA says that the eight-lane wide Grand Concourse enables speeding and reckless driving while denying Bronx residents safe access to healthy transportation choices. Opening the Grand Concourse to bike and foot traffic creates a safe space for Bronx residents to exercise and connect with their neighborhood.

Boogie on the Boulevard is made possible by Popular Community Bank, Transportation Alternatives, New York City Department of Transportation’s Weekend Walks program, and Bon Secours New York Health System Healthy Communities. Organizing support is provided by the Bronx District Public Health Office of the Health Department’s Center for Health Equity, the T.A.’s Bronx Activist Committee and Bronx Health REACH.
