Create your very own mini-terrarium in a recycled glass jar that we provide, or bring in one of your own. Craft a small world to house a succulent bud through the winter. Add layers of sand, tiny rocks and natural materials, or even a tiny creature to live within your take-home nursery. Free, and admission to the grounds is free until noon.

SAT, OCTOBER 24 TAI CHI CHUAN
Quiet like a mountain, moving like a river, Tai Chi Chuan is a sequence of gentle movements based on images found in nature. In this class, Irving Yee, a member of the William CC Chen Tai Chi School, introduces students to the internal martial arts, and promotes awareness of their health benefits. Students split into groups according to their level of expertise, exploring movements at their own pace, whether as beginners or more advanced students of Tai Chi. Session fee: $25/$15 Wave Hill Member. Advance registration online receives a $2 discount. Online registration closes at 8AM on the day of the session. Cancellations must be made by 3PM the Friday before; after that, refunds will not be made. Drop-ins will be accommodated as the limited space permits. Van Lier Visual Artist Fellows Julian Chams and Beatrice Glow discuss their creative processes and the concepts behind their solo projects. In the Sunroom, Julian Chams creates tactile, photo-based assemblages of memories, feelings and experiences, seeking to soften our information-laden world. Beatrice Glow’s installation converts the Sun Porch into a retelling of trans-Pacific histories, using sights and scents that reference the spice trade. Free with admission to the grounds.

Journey to Mahwah, NJ for a scenic hike in the Ramapo Valley Reservation with Don Weise of the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference and naturalist Gabriel Willow. Begin at the Trail Conference’s new headquarters in the historic Darlington School House (c. 1890), then hit the trails to enjoy colorful fall foliage and wildlife in the Reservation. A lake, waterfalls and views of the Ramapo River valley are highlights of the hike. Morning snack included; enjoy lunch at a local restaurant (additional) before returning to Wave Hill. $55 Wave Hill Member. The act of exploring, recording and recounting is central to the artistic practice of many artists. The fall exhibition, Field Notes, brings together three artists—Matthew Friday, David McQueen and Michelle Stuart—whose projects in Glyndor Gallery and on the grounds will encourage visitors to discover connections of their own. Tours take place Tuesdays and Saturdays at 2PM. Free with admission to the grounds.
