Mr. DeVillo has spent a lifetime walking and researching every inch of the twenty-three mile Bronx River.  Along the way, he has led walks of various segments in the Bronx and Westchester, too numerous to count.  For those that have explored the Bronx River with Mr. DeVillo, you got to enjoy many of the stories, tales and historical facts that he tells from memory.  For those that have not made all the journeys, Stephen has put all the facts and pictures in his new book, The Bronx River in History & Folklore.

This easy to read book has 25 chapters and is 254 pages chock full of interesting facts and entertaining stories.  This allows the reader to follow the timeline or go back and forth and read a chapter once or twice.   For the Bronx historians and researchers, the index, appendix, notes and bibliography is worth twice the cost of the book.  I have to say, while reading the book, I could hear Mr. DeVillo’s voice come through, happily, even with tales of the macabre.  Therefore you need to come out to the East Bronx History Forum and listen to some stories and see the images to give you the big picture when reading his book.

Stephen Paul DeVillo is a lifelong Bronxite and a charter member of the East Bronx History Forum.  He is a former development coordinator at the Bronx River Alliance and submitted many articles for their newsletters.
In addition, he has hands on knowledge of the current state of the Bronx River from all his walking tours and “Rambles”.

All meetings are free and open to the public at The Huntington Free Library and Reading Room, located next to Apple Bank at 9 Westchester Square Bronx, NY.  Parking is free after 7 pm.
