Bronx DA: “Dr. Val” Faces More Charges for Practicing Dentistry Without a License

unnamed (2)

(Bronx, NY – January 12, 2016) – She called herself “Dr. Val” – and was indicted last year on charges of practicing dentistry without a license in Riverdale.  Today, Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announces that VALBONA YZEIRAJ (pron: ZAY-ratch), has been arraigned on new charges following an additional investigation.

It is alleged that her dental procedures included extractions and root canals which harmed her patients.  Now, the 46-year-old woman faces additional criminal charges, pleading not guilty before Supreme Court Justice Steven Barrett to:

Assault in the 2nd Degree (Class D Felony, 2 counts)

Unauthorized Practice (NYS Education Law §6512) (Class E Felony)

Assault in the 3rd Degree (Class A Misdemeanor)

Reckless Endangerment in the 2nd Degree (Class A Misdemeanor)

Petit Larceny (Class A Misdemeanor)

In this new indictment, “Dr. Val” is charged with taking a patient in April of 2013 who found her through 1-800-DENTIST.  Telling the patient he needed a root canal, she is accused of injecting him with anesthetics a total of 19 times.  She allegedly took $900 to do the procedure.

In April of 2015, YZIERAJ was charged and pled not guilty to:

Assault in the 2nd Degree (Class D Felony, 2 counts)

Assault in the 3rd Degree (Class A Misdemeanor, 2 counts)

Unauthorized Practice (NYS Education Law §6512) (Class E Felony, 5 counts)

Attempted Grand Larceny in the 3rd Degree (Class E Felony, 1 count)

Reckless Endangerment in the 2nd Degree (Class A Misdemeanor, 3 counts)

It is alleged that VALBONA YZEIRAJ claimed to have had dental training in her home country of Albania, but was neither trained nor licensed in the United States.  She is accused of treating patients where she worked as an office manager for Dr. Jeffrey Schoengold, at 3800 Independence Avenue, during hours when Dr. Schoengold was not there.  When the dentist discovered her activities, YZEIRAJ was fired.  It is further alleged that when she left, she attempted to take money from the practice.

YZEIRAJ was released on her own recognizance, but has been ordered to pay an additional $10K in bail at her next appearance on February 23rd in Part 60.

If convicted of the charges, VALBONA YZEIRAJ faces up to seven years behind bars.  The charges in this indictment are merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The case against YZEIRAJ is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Patrick McCadden and Corinne Fisk of the Arson/Auto/Economic Crime Bureau.  The arrest was made by Detective Lionel Holman of the Bronx D.A.’s Detective Squad, which is led by Commanding Officer Captain Brian Franklin.
