LOS ANGELES, CA — ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ topped the worldwide weekend box office as of Sunday, January 17, 2016, as compiled by Rentrak. ‘Ride Along 2’, starring Ice Cube and Kevin Hart, topped the domestic U.S. box office.
Rentrak’s Senior Media Analyst Paul Dergarabedian commented, “Disney’s ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ does it again, leading the box office charge as it adds an additional $72.4 million globally in its fifth weekend in cinemas, thus bringing its total to nearly $1.9 billion around the globe as it sets its sights on the $2 billion club. Fox’s ‘The Revenant’ is also a big winner as it builds on critical and awards-season buzz with nearly $150 million worldwide to date and climbing.”
