In this nonpartisan special election for City Council, Mr. J. Loren Russell will be running under the independent Rebuilding Our BX ballot line.

Mr. Russell is an associate minister at Goodwill Baptist Church and Greater Universal Baptist Church. His professional experience also includes starting a financial planning services company, JLR Financial Services Co., in 1989. Rev. Russell has billed his campaign as one based on “Compassion, Commitment, and Competence.”

Russell said he would focus on economic development, education and foster care if elected. He also said he wanted to improve the relationship between the community and law enforcement. “Police have to be shown how to work with the community, and the community needs to understand how to work with the police,” he said.

Creating jobs and new businesses is a central theme in his campaign. Rev. Russell recently launched a six-week managerial training program jobs for individuals hoping to work for McDonald’s Restaurants or other employers.
