Bronx-based Organizations Get Connected To Care For Borough’s Aging Population

March 17 forum to link local community-based organizations with resources to meet the needs of older Bronx residents

Bronx, NY — Aging issues are becoming important at the local and national level, given the rapid growth of our aging population.

In the Bronx, out of 1.4 million residents, roughly 132,000 of them are over age 65, according to 2010 Census data. After a lifetime of work, older adults should be able to enjoy their golden years surrounded by loved ones, in security and in the best possible health. Unfortunately, many face challenges, including multiple chronic health conditions, food insecurity, elder abuse, poverty, behavioral health concerns and more.

“Connecting the Dots: Linking Older Adult Issues to Bronx Community Resources,” will address how community-based organizations can meet the needs of the diverse aging population in the Bronx by connecting with local agencies and resources.

Donna M. Corrado, PhD, Commmissioner, New York City Department for the Aging, will open the forum.

Dr. Vazquez’s presentation will highlight Urban Health Plan’s “The Center for Healthy Aging,” which opened on Monday, March 14.

The Center uses an integrated approach to provide comprehensive care and services that are customized to older adults’ health care needs.
