State Election Staffer Leaked De Blasio Memo

John Conklin, spokesman for the State Board of Elections, leaked a document concerning Mayor Bill de Blasio’s fundraising to Daily News reporter, Ken Lovett, in April, according to the office of New York Inspector General (IG) Catherine Leahy Scott. The confidential document detailed potential campaign-finance violations.

The IG report faults the bipartisan state elections board’s lack of a clear definition of “confidential and privileged” information and rules governing what information may be shared with the media. The IG didn’t recommend firing Conklin but the report recommended clearer guidelines and retraining of the SBOE staff.
