Bronx Teacher Wins 2016 Excellence Award

Allysa Axelband

Allysa Axelband has won a 2016 Excellence Award for her work as a phenomenal SETSS teacher at SA Bronx 3. She ensures that some of SA’s neediest children are given attention and focus. She is always willing to go beyond Z, and consistently uses her preps not for coffee or snack breaks, but to observe her peers and offer feedback or support. She is also consistently finding new fun ways to introduce learning to her scholars. She started a pen pal program with the Ohio State Football team and had the artist, Joshua Radin, come perform a song for her class but not before the class dissected all of his lyrics – discussing the main idea and the deeper meaning of it all. This school would be a very different place without her constant love and care for children.
