ALL FLAGS TO FLY AT HALF-STAFF EFFECTIVE TODAY IN HONOR OF STAFF SERGEANT MIGUEL COLON-VAZQUEZ

NEW YORK––In honor of Staff Sergeant Miguel Colon-Vazquez, of Brooklyn, NY, who lost his life in the line of duty on June 2, 2016 at Fort Hood, all flags shall be flown at half-staff, effective immediately through the date of interment, by order of the Mayor of the City of New York, Bill de Blasio.

This includes all flags — the New York State and City flags, and the POW-MIA flags — on all City buildings, as well as stationary flagstaffs throughout the five boroughs.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Staff Sergeant Miguel Colon-Vazquez. Hailing from Brooklyn, Miguel was a dedicated soldier who lost his life in the line of duty on June 2nd. Miguel served multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan over this 13-year career in the Army. His decorated career in the Army serves as an inspiration to all New York City and the nation, and our hearts go out to his family and friends.”
