Eight cars of a CSX freight train unexpectedly derailed, cutting off tens of thousands of commuters of Amtrak’s Northeast Regional and Acela Express lines. The crash was reported at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, October 5, inside the Oak Point Rail Yard in Hunts Point. No injuries were reported.

Limited service was restored in time for lunch however, full service was not restored until after 9 p.m.Officials say seven of the cars were empty and one car was hauling lumber. Federal officials continue to investigate this crash as well as two others that have occurred in the region in the last two weeks.
